Pride And Prejudice - Jane Austen

I feel a deep affection for this book, the first of Austen's that I read, and its characters are inhabited for me by the vibrant acting in the 6 part BBC adaptation that my family watched religiously, so worthy of Austen's wit and animated storytelling.

This book is so quotable and so quoted, I do think you are missing out a bit if you haven't read! I want to say that 'classic' does not mean 'difficult' or inaccessible. Austen is a very readable writer (Virginia Woolf said that she fashioned a fine sentence for her own use) and her language is not yet arcane enough to cause problems even for younger readers.
